Understanding Your CEFR Level
The CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is an internationally recognised scale used to describe English language ability. Your result indicates how effectively you can understand, speak, read, and write English in real-world contexts.
A1 – Beginner
You can understand and use very basic everyday expressions and simple sentences. You can introduce yourself, ask and answer basic questions, and interact slowly with help from the listener. Vocabulary and grammar range are very limited.
Typical ability: Survival communication in familiar situations.
A2 – Elementary
You can understand frequently used expressions related to daily life, such as work, shopping, and family. You can exchange information in simple conversations and describe basic needs, preferences, and past activities.
Typical ability: Routine communication with some hesitation.
B1 – Intermediate
You can understand the main points of clear, standard English on familiar topics. You can manage most situations while travelling, participate in discussions, and write simple connected text describing experiences and opinions.
Typical ability: Independent communication in everyday and work contexts.
B2 – Upper Intermediate
You can understand complex texts and technical discussions in your field. You can interact fluently and spontaneously with native speakers and express ideas clearly, in detail, and with good grammatical control.
Typical ability: Confident, effective communication in professional and academic settings.
C1 – Advanced
You can understand a wide range of demanding texts, including implicit meaning. You can express yourself fluently and precisely, adapt language to different contexts, and produce well-structured, detailed communication.
Typical ability: High-level professional, academic, and social use of English.
C2 – Proficient
You can understand virtually everything you read or hear with ease. You can summarise information from different sources and express yourself naturally, accurately, and effortlessly, even in complex situations.
Typical ability: Near-native or native-level command of English.
Important:
This test provides an estimated CEFR level for placement and guidance. Full language proficiency may also involve speaking and writing assessments.
